Lakehouse is a successful construction company turning over £42M. What sets them apart from their competitors is their drive for success through continuous staff training and development, underpinned by their Investor in People accreditation.
Lakehouse had a vision to develop not only their own people but also those of their supply chain, introducing a culture of training and development to their valued suppliers and subcontractors.
A Train to Gain Skills Broker was tasked to:
- Source NVQs in Multi-skills and Painting and Decorating
- Develop NVQs tailored to meet the specific needs of the business
- Introduce NVQs for Site Managers
- Offer NVQ 2 in plant operations
- Offer NVQ 3 in management for women
- Provide Greenmark / ISO14001 support

Tailored training enabled Lakehouse to develop closer relationships with their clients, the community and the supply chain.
Working with selected clients on new training programmes paved the way for Lakehouse to introduce similar training initiatives to other clients.
Training and employing local people from the communities in which they operate helped the company to gain buy-in from residents and the community in general.
Lakehouse is currently offering advice on training, development and employment practices to their supply chain, encouraging the development of long-term partnerships.
“Promoting a culture of developing people has seen our own staff morale increase, and our involvement in various groups has enabled us to share our ideas and practices with industry peers,” commented Steve Rawlings, Chief Executive of Lakehouse.
“We have been impressed by the level of support made available to us and our supply chain, together with the huge amount of information that the Skills Broker has given us access to, not just in terms of Train to Gain but also in terms of useful networking opportunities,” added Carol King, Human Resources Manager. |
