Apprenticeships - making things happen for your business
Apprenticeships are a highly effective and cost-efficient way to get the right skills in place and improve your organisation’s productivity and profitability.
Trained specifically for your business, apprentices are enthusiastic workers who contribute directly to the success and resilience of your business.
Apprentices are proven to work harder and more effectively than other trainees, and the benefits don’t stop there. Most businesses find that apprentices are easier to recruit, stay with them for longer and report higher job satisfaction.
Creating Apprenticeships for your business
When looking at improving your business performance, your business skills adviser may identify that recruiting an apprentice – or putting an existing employee through an Apprenticeship – is the best solution.
Your adviser will then work with you to determine how best to roll out your Apprenticeships and, if required, help you find candidates through the online Apprenticeship vacancy matching system.
- Your Apprenticeship will be designed to meet your specific business needs and will help you develop the specialist skills you need to keep pace with the latest technology and working practices in your sector
- Apprenticeship funding is available from the Learning and Skills Council for both public and private sector employers – it varies depending on your sector and the age of the candidate
- Most of the training is ‘on the job’ – at your premises working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills
- Apprentices usually receive training with a specialist training provider on a day release basis

³ Populus Research, February 2009.
“People who do Apprenticeships become ambitious; they’re ‘doers’, the kind of people who will make things happen. These are the qualities I look for in people. Success is all about finding people like this – people who will help make any business grow, especially in times like these. It’s important that employers take Apprenticeships seriously – Apprentices make things happen and can help a business to grow and thrive.”
